Urwerk UR-105 TTH "Tantalum Housing"
The Urwerk UR-105 TTH "Tantalum Case" is the final addition to the brand's acclaimed UR-105 series. Made in part from tantalum, a rare metal that is difficult to machine and polish, the material's appearance and its various properties made it a worthy choice for Urwerk, a brand that is not afraid of technical challenges. replica Urwerk UR 105 Watches
Founded in 1997, Urwerk's models stand out in a crowded watch market thanks to the brand's unique design language, interesting use of materials and high-end finishes. A few years ago, the Swiss brand loaned me a UR-210 model, which I wore permanently for weeks. This horological behemoth has proven to be comfortable to wear, and its wandering time display is very intuitive and easy to read.
After marveling at the UR-210 and noting its various attributes, I was a little surprised to hear the brand announced it was discontinuing production. Shortly thereafter, the company released the UR-220 Falcon project. At first glance, this watch looks very similar to the UR-210, although some of its genetic code has certainly been carried over to the new model. However, the UR-220 Falcon Project is hand-wound, slimmer, and its curved case offers a superior ergonomic fit.
At the heart of the company's model is an overriding desire for progress. The company has produced a number of different models over the years and has never been afraid to abandon existing references to make way for new members of the Urwerk family. Additionally, the brand has struggled to limit the dimensions of its model range, a trait Felix Baumgartner recently spoke about. The talented watchmaker of the Maison said: “In order to remain true to ourselves and remain URWERK, we produce less than 150 pieces per year. This means that we must reluctantly ‘kill' a collection in order to give life to new creations. Time is running out for the UR-105 CT.” watches replica cheap
Once a model joins the current lineup, the company always releases a number of animations throughout its lifespan. Colors, textures and materials are all influenced by co-founder Martin Frei's penchant for creative expression. Martin Frei and Felix Baumgartner used materials from a variety of sources, some of which are typically used in aerospace or medical applications. For many large watch brands, animating is a relatively cheap step, however, for a brand like Urwerk, which produces around 150 watches per year, choosing a different case material is very expensive. In short, when producing small quantities of parts, Urwerk doesn't enjoy the economies of scale that larger brands with six-figure annual production do.
Now, it's time to say goodbye to the UR-105, a popular model that has spawned many descendants. The brand experiments with a variety of materials and finishes, cleverly creating a new look each time. In fact, if you compare the UR-105TA Clockwork Orange, UR-105CT Streamliner, and UR-105CT Maverick, you will find that they all have the same jawline, but look significantly different. replica Porsche Design 1919 Watch
The UR-105's swan song is the Urwerk UR-105 TTH "Tantalum Case". The case is made of titanium and tantalum. The latter metal is rare, corrosion-resistant, hypoallergenic, strong and has a bluish-grey appearance. Certain grades of titanium are difficult to machine, causing tools to wear more easily. Additionally, milling speeds must be reduced to prevent thermal damage, thereby increasing production time and inevitably increasing costs. Tantalum also creates a number of challenges for CNC machine operators, according to the brand. Still, Urwerk has proven time and again over the years that it's not afraid to face technical obstacles in order to achieve the look or performance it's aiming for. The floating hour display uses a new hollow dial, and the brand uses LIGA technology to make the seconds dial.
When I saw the Urwerk UR-105 TTH "Tantalum Case" I was sad to see it pass, and I completely understand why many watch enthusiasts would be eager to pick up one of these 12 pieces. However, speaking from experience, I predict there will be a lot more fun to be had with this progressive brand.
"Tantalum is a very special metal. It's named after Tantalus, one of the bad boys in Greek mythology. Tantalum is very precious, rare, and extremely difficult to machine and finish. A few years ago, we made UR-110 - that was pretty much the last time. The team made me promise not to use it again because the tantalum would "eat" the drill bits on our CNC machines. It destroyed them and tripled their lifespan. But I love the blue-gray sheen it has. Pure magic!" reveals co-founder Martin Frey. luxury watches replica
"Tantalum is a precious metal that weighs about the same as platinum. It has a solid presence on the wrist. It's a nightmare to work with, but it possesses unparalleled beauty. Tantalum is the most URWERK-esque metal I know One. It is dark, almost anthracite, a color that is integral to URWERK's aesthetic identity,” reveals Felix Baumgartner.
"The UR-105 TTH ("TTH" stands for Tantalum Housing) is a beautiful object, sturdy and comfortable to hold. Its unique octagonal shape has deep stripes along its entire length. It is angular, geometric, Symmetrical and strongly influenced by Art Deco," concludes Felix Baumgartner.
Martin Frei explains: "The UR-105 TTH is equipped with a protective cover, a breast plate that protects the mechanism. Tantalum is the perfect protective shield against corrosion. Hence its name tantalum shell." Jacob and Co. Bugatti Chiron
Activating the UR-105 TTH's sliding "tongue" opens the hull to reveal its mechanics, which features a satellite time indication built into the new skeletal dial. The latter supports four hour satellites, each displaying three hour digits that rotate sequentially along a minute track, providing both analog and digital time displays.
A power reserve indicator and digital seconds hand complete the information on the dial. The digital seconds hand that displays seconds in ten-second increments is particularly eye-catching. To make it as light and ephemeral as possible, the seconds counter is made using the LIGA photolithography process and the markers are skeletonized. The total weight of the display is less than 0.10 grams.
Two turbines on the back regulate the movement's automatic winding system, which can be easily adjusted using a small lever depending on the wearer's activity level. In the "FULL" position, the slightest movement of the wrist is enough to wind the mainspring. In "Stop" mode, the automatic winding system is deactivated and the UR-105 is manually wound. The third middle position, "Red" (meaning "Reduce"), eases winding to minimize excessive tension and wear. replica Franck Muller Watches
